Lindsay Marshall
President, Global Labor Relations and Strategy
UPS
Lindsay was named president, global labor relations and strategy, in 2019. He has led U.S. national negotiations with the International Association of Machinists (IAM), as well as the Teamsters (IBT). The UPS-IBT Agreement is the largest private sector Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) in the US, covering over 340,000 employees.
Prior to joining UPS, Lindsay was a labor relations attorney at Alston & Bird LLC in Atlanta. He began his UPS career in 1998 as a labor relations attorney in the corporate legal department. Beginning in 2004, he worked in UPS’s package operations in Georgia in a variety of warehouse and on-road assignments. In 2006, Lindsay was named the labor relations manager for the East Central Region in Philadelphia.
In 2010, Lindsay accepted the assignment of West Region labor relations manager based in Southern California. He moved back to Atlanta in 2014 to accept the labor relations responsibility for UPS’s corporate office and assisted in negotiations with the Independent Pilots Association (IPA). Lindsay was promoted to vice president of labor relations in 2015 and assumed his current role in 2019.
Lindsay leads a team of more than 220 global labor relations professionals. The U.S. team is responsible for negotiations and day-to-day relationships with the IBT. The UPS-IBT agreement consists of a national CBA along with over 40 local supplements and riders. The UPS-IBT grievance panel system is the largest private sector dispute resolution system in the U.S., consisting of over two dozen grievance panels that meet on a regular basis to adjudicate discipline and language grievances. Regional Deadlock Panels and the UPS-IBT National Grievance Panel then meet on a quarterly basis to resolve deadlocked cases.
The US team also negotiates and administers the IAM CBA, consisting of a national agreement and over 20 local supplemental contracts that cover UPS’s automotive and conveyor mechanics. The UPS Airline labor relations department handles three Railway Labor Act CBAs covering pilots, aircraft maintenance employees, and flight dispatchers. The international labor relations team is responsible for several dozen Works Council and union relationships in Europe, in addition to negotiating contracts throughout Asia and Latin America.
Lindsay holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science and history from Duke University and earned his juris doctor from the University of Georgia School of Law.
